9 Phrases to Add Some Winter Wonder to Your SMS Marketing Campaign
The clocks have turned back, the days are shorter and the mornings are getting frostier. Like it or not, winter is upon us. Although (Christmas aside) it may not be our favourite time of year, it can nonetheless conjure up powerful images. Knowing how to capture the wonder of winter and use it to add that special touch to your SMS Marketing campaign is a great way to show your human side, demonstrate your creative flair and most importantly, increase sales.
Not sure how to add that seasonal sparkle? Here are 10 of the most effective words and phrases, and some examples of how they could be used.
1. Sparkle
The word sparkle is often associated with the attractive quality of ice, and also typically connected with beauty. This makes it a great seasonal word to use if you offer health or beauty products or services. If you are a dental practice promoting teeth whitening, why not send a message such as “Put the sparkle back into your smile this winter with teeth whitening packages from just £395”. A beautician might use a similar approach and send something like “Put the sparkle back into your smile with a luxury facial treatment at Sue’s Spa this winter. Book now for 15% off our regular price.”
2. Get a grip
In the context of winter, this can be the perfect phrase for companies selling products that are related to grip. Shoe retailers or outdoor outfitters could play on it to promote winter ranges, for example “Get a grip on winter with the latest range of hiking boots, exclusive to the Outdoor Store.” Equally, automobile shops might run a campaign such as “Get a grip and stay safe on the road with our range of winter motoring products”.
3. Warm up
There are few things more attractive in winter than the notion of warming up one’s hands on a nice cup of hot chocolate – or maybe that’s just us getting romantic. Nonetheless, if you are in the catering or hospitality industry, then warming up your customers is probably what you do best, and promoting you warming winter menu is an obvious way to increase sales. “Feeling the cold? Warm yourself up with our special spiced coffee and cinnamon bun for two at the Olde Oak restaurant.”
4. Freeze
Most often collocated with price, this is a great one to use if you are offering a subscription-based product or service. If you are a personal fitness trainer, for example, you might want to think about a campaign along the lines of “Price freeze! Sign up for your 2018 membership by Dec 15th and we promise to let you take advantage of our 2017 pricing.”
5. Bundle up
Before venturing outside into the cold winter air, you’ll want to bundle up in plenty of layers of warm clothes. This popular phrase is also great to use as an idiom if you are offering a bundle deal for your customers such as free minutes and texts on their mobile phone package – “Bundle up and get 500 minutes for the price of 250 when you top up for £10 or more this winter.”
6. Left out in the cold
This is an idiom that lends itself perfectly to plumbing and heating companies. Why not drive your sales with a campaign that reads as follows: “Don’t get left out in the cold this winter – book a winter boiler check now and save up to 15%.” The idiom is equally apt for many types of insurance or breakdown cover for both properties and vehicles that offer assurances to their customers and ensure that they don’t get literally left in the cold if the worst happens.
7. Snowed under
This is an idiom that can be used to great effect if you are promoting a product or service which allows a customer to simplify a certain aspect of their lives. If you are an independent loans company, for example, you might send a message that reads “Snowed under? Get your finances back in order with an affordable loan from the Little Loan Company”.
8. Beat the blues
This popular phrase is commonly associated with travel and tourism and despite being somewhat of a cliche, it continues to evoke welcome thoughts of a winter getaway. Try for example “Beat the winter blues with a romantic luxury city break in Paris for two, just £495pp when you book before Dec 31st.”
9. Escape the cold
Very similar in its meaning to the above, this is another great phrase for businesses in the travel and tourism sector to use, in much the same way a illustrated in the previous example.
A final word of caution – there are also some terribly bad winter puns out there too such as ‘Snow joke’ or ‘License to chill’ to cite but a few. Such attempts at humour frequently backfire and are generally best avoided. Whatever winter phrase you choose to use, be natural, be sensitive to your customers and don’t try to force humour. Stay true to your brand and above all else, don’t take it too seriously.
