News, tips & advice from FastSMS

So what has our SMS messaging got to do with holidays? More than you might think actually.

For a start using fastsms when you are away on holiday is a great way of keeping the texts flowing to your friends back home especially as all you isn internet connection to use it. And when you book your holiday aren’t you pleased to get updates by text on pickup times, airport delays plus confirmations of your bookings?

Fastsms is great for the traveller and gives holiday operators an opportunity to lift their service above the average.

Have you ever wanted to send a message to someone with just the perfect sentiment, but couldn't find the words? Or you couldn't say what you wanted in less than the 160 characters of an SMS message? Believe it or not, there are many places on the web that offer pre-written messages you can simply cut and paste, then send off to unsuspecting family and friends. If you Google just a little, you'll find that these already composed messages are gaining ground as a greeting card substitute too. As someone who always forgets to get the holiday cards in the post, I see the allure of sending holiday greetings via SMS. They're fast, easy, yet potentially just as heartfelt as whatever is written inside a traditional greeting card. So I looked around and found a few I thought worthy of sharing – and perhaps sending. The ones I've chosen come from SMS4smile.com. It...

The rush of holiday shopping is nearing its peak this week. As people wade through the frenzy and chaos of trying to find the perfect gift, a text message from your store might be just what they need. At least that's what a study form MarketLive might be telling us. Their study focuses on mobile users and what it is they want from retailers this shopping season. While the study covers many different aspects of mobile marketing, I want to focus here on the ones related to SMS. After all, there are a few days left before Christmas, which is plenty of time to get together an SMS campaign to reach those last minute shoppers. But some of the other aspects of mobile examined by Marketlive would take a bit longer to...

In the image you'll see the obvious peaks on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but you won't see the peak after Christmas for Boxing Day because this data is for the US. They have a surge in sales after Christmas, but usually not as big as the UK (You can see a similar chart for UK online only sales in an IBM report I'll discuss in a later section.). And it looks like the UK might be following the trend shown above more anyway, because according to Barclaycard, Black Friday was the biggest...

One of the amazing things about SMS messaging is the ability to reach out and send messages to those we care about instantaneously: birthday wishes, get well soons, Merry Christmases, and of course Happy New Years! But there’s something special about New Year’s wishes. After you’ve had your traditional kiss and hug as the bell tolls, you grab your mobile and send your “Happy New Year!” text to everyone you care about who’s not at the party. Millions of people (literally) are doing the same thing at the same time.

“Merry Christmas” - Today is Christmas, and we do wish you all a very merry Christmas indeed. But we put the greeting in quotes for a reason. Twenty-two years ago this month, those were the first words ever sent as an SMS message.
