News, tips & advice from FastSMS

The history of SMS or Short Message Service goes right back to the early 1980’s but it is only in the past 10 years or so that it has achieved mass usage. Its a simple technology developed to make it quick and easy to transmit text messages of up to 160 characters between mobile devices. This concept has expanded dramatically over recent years through the development of SMS gateways by companies like Fastsms so that text messages can now be sent and received by computers as well as phones.

The history of SMS is more related to its usage than its technology which is little changed over its history. It has however become the most used means of electronic communication on the globe and is rapidly penetrating the business market as a fast, reliable and low cost means of communication in a wide variety of business applications.

Even though it's entrenched in our daily lives, mobile is still a relatively new technology that's suffering from growing pains. People and businesses are finding new and different ways to use smartphones which keeps everyone involved on their toes. One trend in particular is the growth of instant messaging (IM) apps. It was big news when Whatsapp sent more daily messages than were sent over SMS. Some called it the death knell of SMS messaging. Others said mobile was all about apps and notifications. This month the fastsms team celebrates a special anniversary. Aimee Ward, our Customer Services Manager, has been with us for 10 years. We thought we could make it extra special and show how much we appreciate her by featuring her in a blog post.

They have a surge in sales after Christmas, but usually not as big as the UK (You can see a similar chart for UK online only sales in an IBM report I'll discuss in a later section.). And it looks like the UK might be following the trend shown above more anyway, because according to Barclaycard, Black Friday was the biggest...

We've had quite a ride here at fastsms. Last month we were featured in Corporate Vision Magazine. This month, we're proud to announce we've been selected Best for SMS Technology - UK & Best Messaging Platform – UK by Technology Innovator Awards 2015. Earlier this year we released NetMessenger 2. This major release of our SMS web-based platform was a huge step toward embracing new technology that enables us to add features and respond to customer requests faster than our competitors.  Oliver Burt, our Marketing Director describes it this way: "We've always developed all of our systems in-house with our own dedicated development team. We rebuilt our entire messaging system on BootStrap and have been able to ramp up the rate of development significantly." The recognition from Corporate Vision magazine, its readers, the Technology Innovator Awards committee, and our customers feels wonderful. We're grateful to everyone that voted for us and we're excited to continue our mission to make SMS messaging...

We aren't ones to toot our own horn that often, but being featured in a magazine doesn't happen every day. It did happen though, so we're excited and wanted to share it with you...
