As online retailing becomes more and more common ecommerce is using SMS in a number of innovative ways to make the process faster, easier and more secure.

For a while now companies such as Amazon have used SMS messaging to update customers on the progress of their orders and estimated delivery times. When setting up an online account it is common for the retailer to send an authorisation code by text to cut down on fraud and new services, such as Magic, now offer a service that permits you to order anything from virtually anywhere just by sending a text.

And this may just be the beginning.

While there are many ways you can probably think of to promote your SMS opt in campaign, there may be some “free” channels you’re neglecting. Thanks to Google, I can point out seven of them. At the mCommerce Summit Google gave a presentation about app promotion and optimising. I can’t even convey how exasperated the presenter was when he talked about how many opportunities companies just let slip by.

You might be thinking that sounds boring rather than interesting, but what drew my attention was the relationship of employment to A2P SMS messaging.

It's an app world out there. The average mobile owner has about 40 apps installed at any one time. But they usually use approximately 15 regularly. Personally, that's about right. Though I would bet I've had many more than 40 apps before, but I get around to deleting some eventually.
